Blinds & awnings for Gordon's Bay
A short drive east along the coast from Strand — a working harbour, a mountain rising close behind it, and homes that split between the sheltered streets near the water and the wind-exposed slope above.
Two different briefs on one hillside
Gordon's Bay's older cottages sit close to the harbour wall, sheltered enough by the Hottentots-Holland range that reflected glare off the water is the bigger daily problem than wind. Climb the slope towards the newer homes above and the brief flips — the view down the coast towards Strand gets longer and better, and the wind gets considerably more serious. We spec the two differently rather than sending one standard answer up the hill.
A harbour view worth keeping
Fishing boats, the breakwater and the small-craft harbour give a Gordon's Bay lounge a view most Strand apartments don't have — sunscreen and day-night blinds are the two products that manage the glare bouncing off that water without giving up the view for the sake of it.
Salt air, on both levels
Whether a home sits at the water's edge or higher on the mountainside, salt-laden air off False Bay reaches every exterior fitting on this coast. We specify sealed cassettes and powder-coated aluminium hardware regardless of altitude — the harbour homes and the hillside homes corrode at similar rates if the hardware is wrong.
- Harbourside cottages: glare off the water, more shelter from wind
- Hillside homes: longer coastal views, genuinely stronger wind
- Salt-air-rated hardware specified at every altitude
- Mostly free-standing homes — fewer body corporate constraints than Strand's apartment blocks
